Utility Trenching
Utility Trenching in the Gallatin Valley
Getting water, sewer, gas, electric, and drainage lines to a building means a clean, safe, properly bedded trench. Pluckandfeather trenches for every utility, sets the pipe on the right bedding material, and backfills and compacts so the ground above does not settle over the line later. We locate before we dig and protect the crew in every deep cut.
Why Safe Trenching Is Not Optional
A trench is one of the most dangerous parts of any excavation, and Montana ground makes it worse. Sandy outwash and a high water table can slough a wall without warning. That is why we file the 811 locate first and follow OSHA Subpart P: any cut 5 feet and deeper gets a protective system, either sloping, benching, or a trench box. A competent person inspects the excavation before anyone enters it.
Our Process
We call in the utility locate, open the trench to plan depth and line, and lay in sand or pipe bedding so the line is supported evenly. After the pipe is set and inspected, we backfill in lifts and compact the surface so a driveway or lawn off Durston Road does not sink along the run. Rocky or deep trenches take more time, and we tell you that up front.
